Koukaku Kidoutai 2: Innocence
After Major Motoko Kusanagi disappeared, Section 9's Batou was tasked to investigate a series of gruesome murders that appeared to be committed by malfunctioning gynoids or sex robots. However, when he received a cryptic message from a faulty gynoid, Batou started questioning the root cause of their breakdowns. The possibility of politically motivated murder and an illegal "ghost" emerged, leading him and his partner Togusa into a dangerous web of conspiracy.
As they delved deeper into the investigation, the boundary between human and machine became increasingly blurred, and reality and perception began to merge. Facing off against strange and perilous enemies, Batou and Togusa explored a futuristic world brimming with advanced technology and living dolls but devoid of genuine humanity.
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence was nominated for the Palme dOr at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004, and is so far the only anime to have been nominated for this prestigious award.
