In california's center city, there lives a shy but kindhearted teenager named joey jones with his grandmother. despite facing financial difficulties and bullying at school, he remains optimistic. as an avid robotics enthusiast, joey dreams of owning a top-of-the-line toy robot called heybo. one day, while playing with simon "psy" kaina, they come across a damaged heybo discarded by wealthy kids. joey takes it home and repairs it himself, naming it heroman. however, on the same night, lightning strikes heroman, causing him to grow in size. meanwhile, center city is attacked by aliens called skrugg, whose attention was drawn to earth after joeys acquaintance professor matthew denton tried contacting them. along with joey and heroman, they rush to the scene of the attack, where they find people trapped and in need of help. using an arm-mounted controller, joey commands heroman to use his superpowers to fight off the skrugg and save civilians. as the aliens continue their invasion, joey and heroman are the only ones standing between humanity and destruction.
