Ranmaru has an appearance that is both masculine and feminine, with a soft voice. Despite having a weak body, he was given food by farmers nearby to survive. One day, while using his kekkei genkai, Ranmaru accidentally witnessed an injury that he couldn't have seen otherwise. The villagers noticed this and saw him as strange, so they stopped feeding him. As a result, Ranmaru felt lonely. Not long after, Raiga arrived on a mission to kill him, but Ranmaru was able to reveal his abilities and the sorrow within Raiga. This led to Raiga carrying him on his back, allowing Ranmaru to see the outside world for the first time. After Raiga defected, he and Raiga enslaved a town and forced its villagers to work in their mines. They also gathered followers, including Karashi, to form the Kurosuki family.
