Police Superintendent Matsudaira Katakuriko is a high-ranking government officer under direct control of the Bakufu government who oversees the Shinsengumi and reports directly to Commander Kondo Isao. He has a reputation for being extremely violent, often wielding heavy weapons such as pistols and bazookas. Despite this, he believes that people wearing sunglasses are usually assassins, even though he himself wears them. This has earned him the nickname "God of Destruction." Matsudaira Katakuriko also holds several unconventional beliefs, such as righteousness being what makes up 80% of old men and the police being nothing more than a mafia community. He is fiercely protective of his daughter, Kuriko, and has recruited the Shinsengumi to carry out a hit against her boyfriend. Matsudaira Katakuriko enjoys partying and gets lewd when he's drunk. He often accompanies the shogun Tokugawa Shigeshige on outings, bringing him to seedy places under the guise of being a father figure. Matsudaira Katakuriko is also known for his womanizing tendencies and frequently visits hostess/cabaret clubs. He is a VIP customer at Snack Smile, where Otae works. His name and role are based on Matsudaira Katamori from Japanese history.
