Bakabons father, also known as Papa, is the main character of the show who often gets into trouble due to his stupidity or crazy ideas. He has a catchphrase "Kore de ii no da" which means "It'll be all right." Typical episodes involve him struggling with simple tasks or coming up with wild plans that cause chaos. Despite being once very smart, an accident caused him to become an idiot. Papa is easily recognizable by his trademark hachimaki and loves octopus. He has gained popularity in Japan and was ranked 9th on a 2002 TV Asahi Top 100 Anime Characters list.
