In 1921 during the taisho era, maria ichijou lost both parents and sought refuge with friends. however, things took an unpleasant turn when her friend's father became physically abusive towards her. feeling distressed, maria wandered around town until she collapsed in front of her old house. it was dr. toudou sei who came to her rescue. upon learning that the house had been transformed into a dormitory for doctors at imperial maria hospital, maria decided to work there under an assumed identity to uncover the truth about her father's betrayal.
