Keitarou Gentouga is a university student with a dislike for ghosts. Despite having an ability to attract spirits, he suffered a spiritual injury on his right hand two years ago, which resulted in him becoming a social recluse. With the help of his childhood friend Eiko Houzuki, he is now beginning to interact with society again. As part of his recovery process, Keitarou has taken on a part-time job as a private tutor. His first student is Yayoi Houzuki, Eiko's cousin, who is both a child prodigy and possesses a spiritual constitution like Keitarou. Unlike Keitarou, Yayoi desires to encounter spirits in hopes of finding the ghost that took her mother away. As Keitarou becomes involved in Yayoi and Eiko's paranormal adventures, his part-time job as a tutor gradually deviates from its original purpose.

Dark Gathering has been published in English by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint since May 16, 2023.
