Rinku Aimoto, who spent most of her life living abroad in Africa, has returned to Japan to attend Yoba Academy, a school known for its popular DJ units. At Yoba, she meets Maho Akashi, who teaches her the basics of DJing. Inspired by Yoba's famous DJ unit Peaky P-key, Rinku and Maho form their own unit called Happy Around. They recruit Muni Oonaruto, a talented artist and childhood friend of Rinku, as well as Rei Togetsu, a shy and caring pianist. Happy Around aims to use their combined talents and new friendships to become one of Japan's top DJ units.

The D4DJ franchise released a mobile rhythm game, titled D4DJ Groovy Mix for iOS and Android, which was developed by Donuts and published by Bushiroad. The Japanese version was released in October 2020, with the English language version of the game releasing in May 2021.
