The Dead Moon Circus still poses a threat to Usagi Tsukino and the Sailor Guardians. With their backs against the wall, the Earth continues to plunge into darkness as nightmares persist. The Outer Sailor Guardians detect something amiss when Hotaru Tomoe rapidly ages following the solar eclipse. They believe that their prince and princess are in danger, so they reactivate their powers to reunite with their fellow Sailor Guardians. However, due to the effects of the eclipse, Usagi and Mamoru Chibas' conditions worsen, causing their abilities to decline. Without a leader, the Guardians feel lost about what to do next. Frustrated by the circumstances, Hotaru and Chibiusa decide to confront the Amazoness Quartet on their own, who have been responsible for much of the chaos up until now. With Queen Nehelenias liberation drawing near, the Sailor Guardians are running out of time to put a stop to her.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal Movie 2 was pushed back to February 11, 2021. The film later premiered on Netflix on June 3, 2021. It was also released on Blu-ray and DVD on June 30, 2021 in Japan.
