The movie's plot takes place in okoya forest, a sanctuary for pokemon where outsiders are prohibited. it revolves around koko, who grew up with pokemon and identifies as one himself, seeing zarude, the mythical pokemon, as his father. during an adventure, ash and pikachu come across him. the film explores the concept of a "pokemon-raised human" rather than the previous films' emphasis on the bond between humans and their trained pokemon.
