In essence, at the Personality Plant, robots are constructed with artificial memories that replicate those of real individuals. Suzu is an example of such a robot being designed to replace a deceased young boy within a family. Coincidentally, he encounters Hotori, who experiences progressive memory loss. Despite this, they develop a bond and try to comprehend their identities as their recollections evolve.

The film won the Animax Awards (an anime script-writing competition) in 2004.
