The game by Alice Soft features Rance, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest swordsmen in the world. However, he possesses an unpleasant personality that includes being narcissistic, lecherous, abusive and lacking social graces. Despite this, his slave Sill remains deeply in love with him, despite knowing about his character flaws. In the story, Rance is hired to protect a remote desert village from attacks by a sorceress who seeks to resurrect an ancient demon.
