In the near future, humanity experiences another energy revolution due to the discovery of Photon Power in an ore found under Mt. Fuji's foothills. The purpose was to solve global energy issues using its immense power. However, Dr. Hell, a madman seeking world domination, and his subordinates Baron Ashura, Count Brocken, and Viscount Pygman, command an army of mechanical beasts excavated from ancient Greek ruins to seize the Photon Power Lab for themselves. In response, Kabuto Kouji, a hot-blooded teenager, pilots a Photon Powered robot built by his grandfather Mazinger Z to confront Dr. Hell and his minions. Despite legends surrounding Mycenaean Civilization and Bardos Island remaining shrouded in mystery, as well as the secrets of Mazinger Z, Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen is a new series that starts from scratch with a fresh cast to tell an entirely different story unrelated to the original show.
