The story revolves around chiyo mihama, a 10-year-old academic prodigy who starts her high school journey as one of the most unusual students in her class due to her small size and love for plush dolls and homemade cooking. however, yukari tanizaki, her homeroom teacher, is not an exception when it comes to peculiarities. there are many other odd girls in the same class, including tomo takino, a tomboy with more enthusiasm than brains; koyomi mizuhara, tomos best friend whose temper has a short fuse; sakaki, a tall and athletic beauty who is obsessed with cats; ayumu kasuga, a transfer student with her head in the clouds and some interesting theories about chiyos pigtails. the group of girls experiences various ups and downs throughout their school life, filled with laughter, absurdity, and sometimes even touching commentary on high schools bittersweet nature.
