In devilman, we follow akira fudo, a reserved teenager who goes on a mountain climbing trip with his father in the himalayas. tragically, both he and his father are killed in an accident during the expedition. akiras body is then possessed by the demon soldier devilman, who uses his new human form as a disguise to carry out his mission of causing chaos on earth in order to prepare for a demonic invasion.
before beginning his task in earnest, devilman encounters akiras childhood friend miki makimura and falls deeply in love with her. he resolves to protect both miki and humanity as a whole by battling against other demons. however, zennon, the leader of the demon tribe, is furious at devilmans betrayal and sends his former companions to destroy him.
as the other demons learn that miki is precious to devilman, he must now work to protect her as well as himself. the story raises the question of whether love can overcome evil.
