Jinta Yadomi is currently living a peaceful life as a recluse, spending his days away from school and playing video games at home. On a hot summer day, his childhood friend Meiko "Menma" Honma appears and bothers him to grant a long-forgotten wish. Despite her persistence, Jinta ignores her, which annoys her but doesn't really bother him since Menma has already passed away years ago. At first, Jinta believes that he is hallucinating due to the heat, but later realizes that what he sees is indeed the ghost of Menma. As a result, his group of childhood friends reunites in an attempt to lay Menma's spirit to rest. Reliving their past pain and guilt, they must find the strength not only to help Menma move on but also to come to terms with their own emotions as well.
