Like its predecessor, Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou follows the story of Takashi Natsume, a young boy who has been able to see youkai since childhood, and his bodyguard youkai Madara, known as Nyanko-sensei. In this series, Natsume aims to return names written in his "Book of Friends" (which he inherited from his grandmother Reiko) to the respective youkai in their village. Throughout these journeys, he encounters various youkai with differing personalities - some friendly, others seeking to steal the book or harm him. As Natsume progresses, he learns more about himself and his connection to these enigmatic creatures.
