The story of Doraemon: Nobita no Takarajima involves taking well-known characters to the Caribbean Sea. In this version, Nobita serves as the captain of a ship and engages in battles against his foes. During their journey, Shizuka is kidnapped, and a storm impedes her pursuit. Eventually, the group arrives at Treasure Island, where they discover that it is more than just an ordinary island.

Nobita no Takarajima is an original story inspired by Robert Louis Stevensons Treasure Island and commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Fujiko F. Fujio Pro manga production company. The film opened on 381 theater screens throughout Japan and went on to earn 5.37 billion yen in the domestic box office.
