The story revolves around humanity facing an alien threat known as Pillars, which pushes them to the brink of despair. In response, Odin emerges and grants the people with Valkyries - battle maidens who operate vintage aircraft called Hero Wings. Claudia "Schwertleite" Bruford is a highly skilled European Valkyrie pilot who becomes the replacement for Japan's S-class Valkyrie after its death in battle. Despite her reputation as the Grim Reaper, due to being the sole survivor of every mission that resulted in loss of life, she arrives at the Tateyama Valkyrie Wing with a sense of foreboding, expecting to be shunned again. However, she is pleasantly surprised when she discovers her new comrades are not like the others and have no intention of accepting her nickname.
