Five years ago, gravity-defying bubbles with mysterious powers fell from the sky and landed on Earth. After a massive explosion of unknown origin, Tokyo was enveloped by a giant bubble, causing it to sink into a sea of gravity-bending water. The city was declared off-limits by the government, and its residents were forced to flee. Today, children who lost their families during the "Bubble Fall" live illegally in Tokyo and engage in dangerous parkour battles across the cities crumbling buildings. One such child is Hibiki, an expert in these games with a unique ability to jump between bubbles. While playing near Tokyo Tower, he hears strange noises that lead him to believe there are secrets hidden within its walls. Despite his fears, he decides to investigate and falls into the water below. Just as he's about to drown, a mysterious girl named Uta saves him. Little does Hibiki know that Utas presence in his life will reveal the truth behind the catastrophic event that changed their world forever.

Bubble received an early screening at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival on February 10, 2022. The film was released worldwide on Netflix on April 28, 2022, and in Japanese theaters on May 13, 2022.
