On one occasion, manga writer Shin Karino was visited by four-year-old Kotarou Satou, his new neighbor, who presented him with a box of tissues. In Karinos eyes, Kotarou appeared to be an unusual child: he communicated in an extremely formal manner and lived alone in his apartment without any parents or family members present. However, Kotarou did not seem bothered by this and showed no desire for dependence on others.
Feeling compassionate towards Kotarous situation, Karino decided to follow him to a bathhouse in case something unexpected happened. There, he came to realize that the little boy was not so different from himself. Gradually, Karino, along with other residents of the apartment complex, grew fond of Kotarou and his eccentricities. Similarly, Kotarou may have found something resembling a family in his unusual neighbors.
