A young girl named Suzume resides in a tranquil town situated on Kyushu's outskirts. One day, while exploring her surroundings, she encounters a traveler who is searching for something. The traveler tells Suzume that he is looking for a door. Intrigued by this statement, Suzume decides to follow the traveler and discovers an ancient door in the ruins of a mountainous region. This door appears to be the only remaining structure from a catastrophic event. Despite her apprehension, Suzume reaches out and touches the door.
As soon as she does so, doors begin to open all around Japan, with disasters emerging from beyond them. It becomes clear that these open doors must be closed in order to prevent further harm. The sky above Suzume transforms into a beautiful blend of stars, sunset, and morning light, creating an ethereal atmosphere. With the mysterious doors as her guide, Suzume embarks on a journey to lock these doors and protect her homeland from the dangers that lie beyond them.
Film had its first preview screening in IMAX on November 7th, 2022.
