Mugen was extremely passionate about playing drums until he lost a competition against tanba. afterward, he questioned whether his heart truly belonged to drumming and quit as a result. one day, mugen met goutetsu, who saw potential in him and appointed him as an oyakata for the god of sumo wrestling. in this new world, gods are powered by their oyakatas' drumbeats, forcing mugen to pick up mallets once again. as he and goutetsu won battles together, mugen confronted his doubts and reignited his passion for standing atop the sumo wrestling stage.
Saikyou Kamizmode! was first announced on July 22, 2020 during a Bandai Namco x BN Pictures Festival livestream event. The first episode premiered on September 28, 2020 on Bandai Namco Pictures YouTube channel before its television premiere on Tokyo MX, which premiered on October 9, 2020.
