Hajime Aono was passionate about playing the violin from a young age, inspired by his world-famous musician father. However, after his parents divorced, he vowed never to play again and went to high school without direction or prospects. During physical education class, he got hit in the face with a ball and ended up in the infirmary where he met Ritsuko Akine. She started playing the violin in the room, thinking she was alone. However, rumors had spread that Akine was a bully, which had isolated her from her peers. Aono wasn't aware of this until later.
Akine dreamed of enrolling in a school with an orchestra but her amateurish playing and lack of musical knowledge grated on Aono. Their teacher suggested that Aono teach Akine how to play the violin, which he was initially against. As they spent more time together, they learned to understand and help each other, and Aono may have finally discovered the lost passion and melody in his life.
