Thirteen years have passed since Erlang Shen (also known as Yang Jian) imprisoned his sister under a mountain. Now, he struggles to make ends meet as a penniless bounty hunter. One day, a mysterious woman hires him for a new job. As Yang Jian takes on this task, he discovers that it leads him to chase after his long-lost nephew, Chenxiang. This nephew is searching for the magical lotus lantern that will free his mother from her imprisonment, even if it means causing catastrophe. As Yang Jian confronts the actions of his past, he must also face off against dangerous vigilantes who are also after the same treasure with the power to change their worlds.

Light Chaser Animations' New Gods series of animated films are loosely based on Feng Shen Yanyi (Investiture of the Gods), a 16th century classic Chinese novel.
