The anime series astro boy (1980) depicts a future where machines have achieved autonomy and are a contentious issue in politics and society. it follows the story of atom, a young robot created to resemble the deceased son of his inventors. despite facing challenges early on, atom is rescued and adopted by dr. ochanomizu. as he seeks justice, atom encounters numerous conflicts with different groups and must confront the harsh realities of life.

The original Japanese version of the series ran for 52 episodes while the English version ran for a reduced 51 episodes, as the first two episodes were combined into one, resulting in the omission of the entire backstory of the main antagonist.
