Gura Gawr was feeling unfulfilled with her life in the Lost City of Atlantis, despite being friendly and impulsive. She decided to swim to shore in search of more excitement. However, she soon realized that she couldn't enjoy life on land without clothes. Fortunately, she discovered a nearby Blue Axolotl Beachwear shop that offered her a shark-themed outfit that resonated with her inner child. Gura has since become famous as a VTuber thanks to a flier she found for a Hololive Production audition. Despite this, her origin story remains just as charming as her entertaining YouTube content.

Shark’d premiered at the beginning of a musical livestream, "SHARK 3D LIVE!," on the official Gura Gawr YouTube channel. Shortly after, the animation was uploaded as a standalone video to the channel. The short features references to and cameos of other Hololive Production idols.Tonari Animation, the studio commissioned by Hololive Production to animate the short, uploaded a behind-the-scenes video to their YouTube channel showcasing the animation process.
