Despite feeling more at ease with Botan Nagatsuki and her family of tsukumogami, Hyouma Kunato hasn't forgotten his ultimate goal in life - seeking revenge. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to him, while he is undergoing training in Kyoto under the supervision of the Kadomori family, the Bureau of Traditional Music, comprising three musical instrument tsukumogami, starts implementing its plan. They inquire about Botan's family's intentions concerning Hyouma's proximity to the spirit realm boundary. Following this, the paper umbrella tsukumogami that Hyouma had been chasing for years resurfaces and kidnaps not only Botan but also her university companions. In order to fulfill his pledge to protect Botan, Hyouma may need to reassess his priorities.

Mononogatari 2nd Season was released on Blu-ray in two volumes from October 4, 2023, to December 6, 2023. The anime adapts chapters 27 through 44 of the manga.
