The anime, produced by toei animation and directed by kazumi fukushima, is based on a manga series written by muroyama mayumi. it follows asari, a fourth-grade girl who wins a lucky ticket to hawaii after shopping at a lottery. however, her family, the beachs, fight over who should go, and the ticket gets lost in a bonfire. the travel agency offers to give half of the expenses for the trip in cash, but this only adds more despair to the already unlucky family as they face various challenges and setbacks.
