The tale commences with a spaceship facing difficulties in returning home. It eventually lands on a planet that is near its end, causing an explosion of pure energy due to the powerful and enigmatic beings controlling it. This blast imbues the dying world with life-sustaining power. Introducing Popo, our protagonist, who resides contentedly along with his mother in a secluded area of this planet's forest, home to an array of insect species such as praying mantises, ladybugs, and beetles. His ultimate aspiration is to grow stronger so he can search for his missing father, known as the Guardian of the Forest, who abandoned the family years ago without any trace. During a stroll through the forest, Popo encounters an ominous occurrence - a mysterious mist envelops the area and Passer, a malevolent character, emerges, accusing Popos father of being hostile to the forest dwellers and causing all their troubles. Upon returning home, he discovers his mother has been transformed into a half-human, half-plant creature. Determined to restore his mother to her human form and safeguard the forest from harm, Popo embarks on a quest to locate his father. However, evil Adder and his minions plot against him, utilizing giant beetles as their weapons. Fortunately, Popo is aided by Mushiking: The King of Beetles, who possesses immense strength and an overpowering fighting style, saving the young hero from certain defeat time and again. Can Popo successfully find his father, rescue his mother, and preserve the forest? As he embarks on this epic journey, he discovers his destiny as the next Guardian of the Forest, with Mushiking by his side to guide him through the challenges ahead.
