In the enclosed city of romdo, there is one of earth's remaining human civilizations. a global ecological disaster occurred thousands of years ago, making life outside the domes nearly impossible. to speed up humanity's recovery, autoreivs - humanoid robots - were created to assist people in their daily lives. however, these robots have recently developed an unusual illness known as the "cogito virus," which grants them self-awareness. re-l mayer, granddaughter of romdo's ruler, is tasked with investigating this phenomenon alongside her autoreiv companion iggy. but what starts as a routine investigation soon turns into a conspiracy when re-l encounters humanity's darkest secrets. meanwhile, in another part of romdo, vincent law, an autoreiv specialist, must confront his own inner turmoil as bizarre occurrences unfold around him. along with re-l, iggy, vincent, and the young autoreiv named pino, this unlikely group will work together to unravel romdo's enigmas and ultimately reveal the true purpose of "proxies," the mythical beings said to hold the key to humanity's salvation.
