In 2041, humans established their first lunar colony. However, following a catastrophic event on Earth that destroyed civilization, the Moon Republic constructed Eden, a massive domed city. Currently, in 2267, Takeru engages in hover-craft racing against rival gangs without realizing he is about to embark on a quest to discover Eden's origins.

Freedom was a promotional project to celebrate Nissin Cup Noodles for their 35th anniversary in 2006. The cup noodles are featured prominently throughout the series.
