In essence, Hayate Ayasaki's life has been marked by a series of unfortunate events due to Murphys Law. Despite being abandoned by his parents and accumulating an enormous debt, he was sold off to the yakuza. On a night when he desperately needed money, he encountered Nagi Sanzenin, whom he attempted to kidnap in order to pay off his family's debt. However, due to misunderstandings, Nagi believed Hayate to be confessing his love for her. After saving her from real kidnappers, Hayate was hired as Nagis personal butler. As it turned out, Nagi belonged to one of the wealthiest families in Japan. As a highly skilled butler cursed with bad luck, Hayate had to deal with various misfortunes while serving his employer. He took care of a mansion and fought off dangerous enemies, all while unintentionally winning over the hearts of the women around him. The series Hayate no Gotoku! follows the comedic adventures of this unfortunate butler.
