In Kotetsushin Jeeg, a new cast of characters is introduced fifty years after the original story. The protagonist is Kenji Kusanagi, a high school student who takes on the role of Kotetsushin Jeeg to combat the resurgence of "Haniwa Genjin" ("Clay Phantom Gods"), clay robots from the Jamada Empire ruled by Queen Himika. Along with Tsubaki Tamashiro, granddaughter of Miwa Uzuki, and Kyou Misumi, other characters from the original series also make an appearance.
