The short story "Ghost Toilet," from Toru Tsunemitsus urban myth collection "School Ghost Stories," was adapted into the children's book "Hanako in the Toilet: Scary Stories of Your School" (1993). This adaptation inspired several artists to create a manga series called "Here Comes Hanako." Many of these artists also wrote and illustrated the anime version, which was broadcast as part of the TV series "Ponkikki Kids." Episodes featuring Hanako were titled "The Haunted Cinema" and "The Cursed Promise Ring," with Hanako serving as the host.
