Dame Oyaji is a story about Damesuke Amano, an office worker who experiences bullying at work and home. Despite being powerless in his own household, he lives with his wife Onibaba, teenage daughter Yukiko, and grade-schooler son Takobo. Onibaba is a dominant, violent woman who frequently mistreats her husband and enjoys causing him distress. Both Yukiko and Takobo participate in physically and mentally abusing their father. The original manga was considered controversial in early 1970s Japan due to its depiction of the traditional role of the father as head of the household being challenged.
