Thousands of people have gathered in San Diego for this six-thousand-kilometer competition with a grand prize of fifty million dollars. Since the horse racing era has ended, participants can use any vehicle they prefer. Despite challenging conditions such as traveling up to one hundred kilometers per day through uncharted territories, this unique event attracts many competitors. Known as the Steel Ball Run, this event stands out due to its uniqueness. Johnny Joestar, a young man who was once a horse racer but was left crippled, has come to San Diego to witness the start of this historic race. He encounters Gyro Zeppeli, a racer with two steel balls attached to his waist instead of guns. Witnessing Gyro using one of his steel balls to unleash an incredible power during a duel, Johnny feels a surge of energy flow through his legs, allowing him to stand up for the first time in two years. Inspired by this experience, Johnny decides to compete in the Steel Ball Run in search of the secret behind these steel balls.
