In a world where memories are stored in chips separate from the body, death no longer means the end of the soul. These memory chips can be viewed, altered, and transferred between bodies, allowing the wealthy to achieve eternal life by transferring their consciousness into carefully selected new bodies. For those who cannot afford such technology, selling their own bodies and preserving their souls in the chips becomes a necessary means of survival. A barrier in the form of an electrolytic cloud in the sky separates the prosperous heavens from the impoverished underworld, making social division impenetrable.
One day, Kaiba wakes up with no memories, a gaping hole in his chest, and a locket containing a picture of an unknown woman. After escaping an attack and stumbling upon a rundown village inhabited by the destitute, he embarks on a quest across different planets to uncover more about his identity and the mysterious lady from the photograph.
Throughout his journey, Kaiba grapples with questions surrounding the significance of memories and the role they play in shaping one's sense of self. As he encounters various souls and spirits along the way, he learns that memories are not just relics of the past but rather essential components of our individuality. In the end, Kaiba comes to accept his own identity and the importance of cherishing the memories that define him.
