In 1981, on TV Asahi, a retelling of Mary Shelley's classic book Frankenstein was shown. The film had a runtime of 1 hour and 51 minutes. This adaptation followed the standard narrative of Dr. Victor Frankenstein who, in a dark castle, attempted to bring the dead back to life through an experiment with his assistant. Their efforts resulted in the creation of a man made from body parts gathered from corpses. However, this creature was unpredictable and terrifying. Fearing for his safety, Dr. Frankenstein fled back home to Switzerland while leaving his assistant in charge of destroying the monster. But despite trying to escape, Dr. Frankenstein couldn't run away from his shameful secret forever as a series of mysterious murders occurred around him, forcing him to question whether his creation was truly dead and gone.
