18-year-old Minato Sahashi has failed his college entrance exams twice and feels worthless due to others' perception of him. His life takes a dramatic turn when Musubi, a supernatural woman from another planet, falls into his world. She is a "Sekirei," an extraterrestrial with special abilities. Sekireis have the power to awaken latent human powers through kissing humans carrying the Ashikabi gene. Recognizing Minato's potential, Musubi kisses him and forms a bond between them. This leads to their involvement in the "Sekirei Plan," a high-stakes competition for survival where they must compete against others. However, there is more at risk than initially thought as the contestants are unaware of the true danger lurking behind the competition.

Sekireis English adaptation was done by FUNimation in 2010, two years after its initial Japanese release. The series covers approximately the first fifty chapters of the manga on which it is based.
