Collecting rare juice cans is a great way for kakeru diachi to meet new people. however, he never expected that his pursuit of melon, who has a unique melon-shaped soda can body, would lead him to discover her true identity as an akikan - a special girl created in a strange experiment to determine which type of container is better: steel or aluminum. as kakeru quickly learns, becoming involved in this twisted research project could complicate his life significantly. not only does melon's steel body require carbon dioxide to breathe, but she's also too dependent on it, making her an unavoidable presence in kakeru's life. things get even more complicated when najimi, a wealthy and attractive best friend from childhood, receives her own aluminum akikan, leading to further trouble for kakeru.

Episode 1 was previewed at Bandai Channel on 12/22/2008. Regular broadcasting began on 01/04/2009.
