The story of Shikabane Hime: Aka continues six months after Tagami Keiseis death at the hands of the Shichisei, a group of elite Shikabane who act on more than just regrets. In accordance with Keiseis dying wish, Kagami Ouri formed a temporary contract with Makina to save her from degenerating into a Shikabane. Since then, Ouri has been training to become a proper monk in order to remain contracted to Makina and assist her in fighting against the Shichisei -- those who originally killed Makina, the Hoshimura family, and now Keisei. However, the traitorous monk Shishidou Akasha has joined forces with the Shichisei in an attempt to destroy all Shikabane Hime and the entire Kougon Sect, the monk organization that uses them.
