The protagonist of this narrative is Takashiro Shugo, who was previously an officer with the police force but is now jobless and residing at a brothel. Despite being retired from his profession, he occasionally takes on detective assignments from his former supervisor. To begin with, a missing persons case is assigned to him, involving Kohzuki Yura, someone he had been romantically involved with prior to his deployment to war. Meanwhile, there are a string of gruesome murders taking place in the background, which become increasingly personal as they approach Shugo's own circle. As a result, he is reluctantly drawn back into the vortex of events.
