In a tranquil rural town resides young Ichiro Hanada with his parents and grandpa. Despite being a mischievous child who frequently provokes his sister, disrespects his mom, quarrels with everyone, and consumes excessively, Ichiro experiences a life-threatening accident when he's struck by a truck. Following the incident, he gains the ability to communicate with spirits of those who have recently passed away but are unable to proceed further into the afterlife due to unresolved personal issues. As such, these spectral beings seek out Ichiro for assistance in resolving their lingering problems so they may finally move on.

In 2003, the anime received the Tokyo International Anime Festival Grand Prize for the TV Anime category.
