The third and fourth seasons of Hetalia Axis Powers anime are a continuation of the first two under a new name, still adapting from the online webcomics created by Himaruya Hidekazu. These seasons take place in Europe between 1915 and 1939 and use exaggerated caricatures of different nationalities as portrayed by bishōnen characters. For instance, Italy is into pasta and women, Germany loves potatoes and sausages, and Japan is an otaku boy. The manga series jumps back and forth in setting from ancient times to modern-day geopolitics. The title of the manga comes from Japanese words for "useless" (hetare) and Italy (Italia).

Hetalia World Series was released on DVD by Funimation Entertainment as both separate compilations and as a complete collection. The complete collection was released on November 5, 2013.The anime has been dubbed in English and Tagalog.
