One of the must-see attractions at our festival is Midori-Ko, a masterpiece created by Japanese animator Keitas Kurosaka. This animated film showcases his whimsical and nightmarish vision of 21st-century Tokyo on the brink of apocalypse. It took him ten years to create this work entirely by himself using colored pencils. The intricate details and craft that went into every frame make it a true marvel to behold.
The story follows a young woman who is determined to solve the world's famine problem by engineering a dream-food. Kurosaka combines Frederic Back's subtle, haptic textures with Bill Plympton's frenetic mutations and David Lynch's haunting wormholes in his work, creating a unique and captivating experience for the audience. Despite its dark themes, Midori-Ko retains its own singular, luminous potency that is sure to leave viewers spellbound.
