Saya Kisaragi leads two distinct lives - one as a peaceful schoolgirl during the day and a fierce monster slayer at night. She wields a ceremonial sword given by her father for sacred duties, protecting her tranquil village from any threats. However, when she overhears monsters discussing a broken covenant, Saya's reality is put to the test. A mysterious dog then appears, prompting her to reflect on whom she promised to safeguard the village and what might transpire if she were to breach that pledge. As unsettling visions cloud her understanding and her surroundings begin to unravel, Saya embarks on a journey to discover the truth in a village where nothing is as it seems.

The first episode was pre-released on Nico Nico Douga on July 1, 2011. The regular TV airing started on July 8, 2011.
