In December 2011, at Jump Festa 2012, it was revealed that Bardock, Goku's father, who was believed to have perished during Freeza's attack on Planet Vegeta along with himself and the planet, had actually been sent back in time to a planet inhabited by peculiar creatures. There, he encountered Chilled, the ancestor of Freeza, a space pirate, and engaged in combat to safeguard the planet.
