The sudden emergence of psychokinesis among 0.1% of the population led to a rapid transformation in the world. Those with godlike abilities to manipulate matter remotely turned into violent power wielders, causing widespread upheaval. After a chaotic period marked by oppressive regimes rising and falling, psychic humans were able to achieve a fragile peace by isolating their society and establishing complex rules. In Kamisu 66, Saki Watanabe has just discovered her powers at the age of 12 and is excited to reunite with her friends, including mischievous Satoru Asahina, shy Mamoru Itou, cheerful Maria Akizuki, and enigmatic Shun Aonuma. However, she begins to question what happens to those who don't awaken to their abilities, and the children become involved in mysterious matters such as rumored Tainted Cats that supposedly abduct children. Shinsekai yori is a coming-of-age story about Saki and her friends navigating their roles in the supposed utopia. As they grow up, they face dark and shocking truths about society and the impending chaos born from the new world.
