The novel Nansou Satomi Hakkenden by Kyokutei Bakin tells a story about eight samurai who served the Satomi clan during Japan's tumultuous Sengoku era. These samurai were actually reincarnations of spirits that Princess Fuse, mother to the protagonist, had conceived with a dog named Yatsufusa in the Edo era. In the sequel, Fuse Gansaku: Satomi Hakkenden, Hamaji, a female hunter, comes to her brother to hunt for Fuse, starting anew the cycle of retribution that has been ongoing since the beginning of the Satomi family.
Fuse: Teppou Musume no Torimonochou was released on Blu-ray and DVD in Japan on April 12, 2013. The film was released on Blu-ray in North America as Fusé: Memoirs of a Huntress by NIS America on May 6, 2014.
